- Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Nicole became an accomplished runner and swimmer by high school, qualifying for the 1988 Olympic Swimming Trials in the 100m breaststroke when she was 16. From high school she went on to earn a degree in sociology at Yale University, where she swam varsity for the Yale swim team.
- Nicole's triathlon career began in 1994 with a remarkable and quick climb to the upper echelon of elite racers. She made her pro triathlon debut in 1999. The next year Nicole took her game to the next level as she competed in her first Ironman distance event, finishing third in the California Ironman and 12th at the Hawaii Ironman World Championship.
- In 2002 she began focusing mainly on short distance triathlon racing, with great success, including first-place wins in major events in Boulder, Chicago, and Memphis. During a training run in late 2003, Nicole glanced at her reflection in a store window and realized something was amiss... her clothes had no sass or femininity. Instead of continuing on, Nicole ran home and started scribbling notes for a line of fun, edgy, sexy women's fitness apparel.
- While Nicole continued to fine tune her clothing ideas in 2004, that same year she also made a return to Ironman racing and won Ironman Wisconsin. Nicole has always enjoyed pushing her body to its limits, but after the Wisconsin win she realized she was ready to expand her individual pursuit of athletics. She wanted a larger platform whereupon she could inspire and motivate others as well. This was the beginning of a new chapter in Nicole's life.
- In 2005 Nicole founded SkirtSports Inc., a fitness-skirt specialty company that featured pink-based fitness skirts, designed by a female athlete, for female athletes. The line launched under "TRIKS" and was designed to be worn in marathons, triathlons, during gym workouts, or post workout. Since the company launch, SkirtSports has made national and international headlines, growing from an online catalog to selling in specialty retail shops both nationally and within Canada under the SkirtSports name.
- Moving forward, Ironman Champion and entrepreneur Nicole DeBoom is excited for SkirtSports continual expansion through a variety of avenues as they continue to push their "Convert to Skirt" campaign, where more and more women discover the power that comes from the Skirt!
On a training run, Nicole DeBoom jogged along, wishing for a little inspiration to help her through what felt like her millionth workout of her triathlon career. As she glanced at her reflection in a store window, she realized something was missing. It wasn't the performance in her apparel, but the lack of attitude. When she got home, she immediately scribbled the word "Pretty!" on a piece of scratch paper, taking the historic first step toward what is now the culture of SkirtSports, a company that lives by the idea that fun and fitness is a lifestyle choice that nurtures confidence and happiness. As a professional swimmer, runner, and biker, and CEO of SkirtSports DeBoom endeavored to give the everyday woman extra attitude and style and add inspiration to their workout.
A passion born, the SkirtSports line launched in 2005, mirroring the idea that women should never have to sacrifice femininity for performance in their workout clothes. In the first year, skirts flew off the shelves, selling out by mid-season, to runners, cyclists, triathletes, tennis players, and fashionistas, and the Skirt buzz grew.
As the clothing line has grown in popularity, SkirtSports recently debuted their soon-to-be-infamous national SkirtChaser Race Series in Austin, TX. The race kicks off with a kids "mini chase" and follows the next day with an adult race, including an all-women's start, followed by a men's "SkirtChaser" start three minutes later and concludes with a block party and fashion show.
In 2008 SkirtSports is planning to launch an entire new line including skirts, dresses, tanks, sports bras, hoodies, as well as a bike and triathlon specified collection.
